Treatment options for uterine prolapse

Surgery is needed for those with symptoms, back pain, swelling, vulvar swelling, discomfort, rubbing sensation, difficulty in urination and defecation, and when conservative treatment has failed. The choice of surgical procedure is important. If the bladder is mainly bulging, the pelvic floor suspension should be chosen because of the high recurrence rate and mostly short-term recurrence. If the uterus is mainly prolapsed and the patient is young, laparoscopic uterine suspension is feasible; if the bladder and rectum are accompanied by obvious bulging, full pelvic floor mesh suspension should also be performed. Whether the hysterectomy is performed depends on whether the uterus has lesions. For patients who have undergone hysterectomy, total pelvic reconstruction or posterior pelvic reconstruction is the best surgical option.
