Not all statins need to be taken at night. Those that need to be taken at night include simvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, etc., and are usually taken before bedtime.
Statins are lipid-lowering drugs, and many drugs belong to the statin class, such as atorvastatin, pravastatin, resuvastatin, simvastatin, and so on. People with coronary heart disease, cerebral infarction, carotid artery stenosis of more than 50%, diabetic patients over 40 years of age, hypertension combined with smoking, advanced age, and many other risk factors need to take statins to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events.
Not all statins are taken at night. Atorvastatin and Rosuvastatin have a long half-life and can be taken at any time of the day.
Pravastatin, simvastatin, and fluvastatin have a fast onset of action and short duration after oral administration, mainly inhibit cholesterol synthesis at night, and are best taken at bedtime. According to the instructions, pitavastatin and lovastatin should be taken after dinner.
Statins may also cause liver function abnormalities, rare rhabdomyolysis, and in some cases endocrine abnormalities and central neurotoxicity.
Statins should be used as prescribed by a physician.
