Side effects of licorice

Generally licorice may have side effects when used in relatively excessive amounts or when used improperly. Such as pseudoaldosteronism, mainly manifested as general weakness, numbness of the limbs, inability to stand and walk, headache, chest tightness, increased blood pressure, edema and abdominal distension, reduced blood potassium, and in severe cases, general weakness, flaccidity, and even renal failure, hypertension, edema, and hypoaldosteronism. Indigestion is manifested by nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension and other symptoms. Neurological adverse reactions are mainly manifested as excitement, unexplained laughter, and inability to autonomously. Endocrine system adverse reactions can manifest as lactation as well as adverse reactions due to glucocorticoid-like effects. In addition, hepatic ascites and hepatic coma may be induced. Prolonged use in large amounts may also cause tachycardia, persistent eructation, black hairy tongue and other specific symptoms.
