Does sugar have an effect on high blood pressure

Sugar has an effect on hypertension, especially in patients with diabetes. The causative factors associated with hypertension are more pronounced in patients with diabetes mellitus combined with hypertension. Salt-sensitive individuals are more common in diabetic patients, especially in obese and elderly individuals as well. The higher systolic blood pressure in diabetic patients confirms that increased vascular stiffness contributes to the development of hypertension in diabetic patients, whose blood pressure does not drop at night as usual and is more prevalent in the hypertensive form of diabetes. The increased pressure load in the circulation can lead to target organ damage, such as proteinuria and left ventricular hypertrophy, and in some diabetic patients impairment of autonomic function, which not only leads to elevated systolic blood pressure in the supine position, but also to ineffective treatment, as postural hypotension occurs when the standing position is taken. Therefore, in patients with diabetes, blood pressure should be controlled to 130/80 mmHg or less.
