Swelling and pain in the gums of the back teeth with swallowing pain may be wisdom tooth pericoronitis, periodontal abscess, jaw bone occupation with infection, etc. In the acute stage, antibiotic treatment is recommended to control the inflammation, and after the symptoms are relieved, wisdom tooth extraction, periodontal sequential treatment and surgical treatment are recommended.
1. Wisdom tooth pericoronitis: The gingiva covering the surface of wisdom teeth is often inflamed repeatedly due to wisdom tooth obstruction, which is mainly manifested as swelling and pain in mild cases, and can be manifested as pain in swallowing, limitation of opening and facial swelling in severe cases. In the acute stage, it is recommended to take oral cephalosporin antibiotics and nitroimidazole antibiotics for anti-inflammatory treatment, such as cefprozil and ornidazole; and remove the wisdom teeth after the symptoms are relieved.
2. Periodontal abscess: the resorption of alveolar bone around the teeth leads to the formation of periodontal pockets, and the collection of bacteria in the pockets will easily lead to the formation of abscess, which is accompanied by pain in swallowing and facial swelling in severe cases. In the acute stage, it is recommended to take oral cephalosporin antibiotics, such as cefaclor, cefdinir, etc.; and nitroimidazole antibiotics, such as metronidazole, tinidazole, etc., for anti-inflammatory treatment, and periodontal sequential treatment when the symptoms are relieved.
3. Jaw bone occupation: cysts and tumors in the jaw bone can lead to gingival swelling and pain, swallowing pain, and facial swelling symptoms, requiring surgical treatment.
It is recommended that patients with swollen gums with swallowing pain go to a regular hospital as soon as possible to avoid delay. Drugs should be taken under the guidance of a physician.
