Clinical observations have found that abuse of the following drugs can lead to pharmacogenic eye disease, or cause eye damage. Anti-tuberculosis drugs: Ethambutol and isoniazid are commonly used anti-tuberculosis drugs. Clinical studies have found that certain patients taking these drugs can develop visual haziness, decreased visual acuity, fundus, visual field and chromatophore abnormalities, etc. Severe cases can develop toxic retrobulbar optic neuritis, which is manifested by severe loss of vision in both eyes and only light perception, or even blindness. Antibiotics: 1, penicillin: caused by the eye adverse reactions are mainly manifested as phantom vision, transient visual impairment. 2, chloramphenicol: can cause optic neuritis, phantom vision, if used continuously for 1 month, will appear toxic amblyopia, optic nerve atrophy, etc.. If there is a history of allergy, it will also lead to allergic conjunctivitis. 3.Streptomycin: In addition to acute toxic amblyopia, it can also cause sudden retrobulbar neuritis or progressive optic nerve atrophy, etc. 4, tetracycline: can cause temporary myopia, diplopia, ocular motility disorders, optic papilledema. 5.Sulfonamides: mainly manifest as conjunctivitis, retinitis, optic neuritis, etc. 6.Polymyxin B: its ocular adverse effects are mainly diplopia, nystagmus, etc. Glucocorticoids: Long-term use of hormones can cause an increase in intraocular pressure and lead to glaucoma, and can also cloud the transparent lens inside the eye and cause cataracts. Phenothiazines: Mainly chlorpromazine. Chlorpromazine is the main psychiatric drug, long-term application of large amounts can lead to clouding of the crystal, causing toxic retinopathy, such as the appearance of similar pigmentary retinitis, vision loss, visual field defects. Eye drops: Don’t take eye drops as “eye lubricants”. Most of the commonly used eye drops contain preservatives, which can seriously damage the cornea when the eyes are flushed with them over the years. The eye clinic common some patients all year point eye drops, eye disease but not good, the results of a drug but well, is this reason. This, antibiotic eye drops and hormonal eye drops are even more eye damage, do not abuse. Hormonal eye drops have anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and immunosuppressive effects. The common hormone-containing eye drops are mainly dexamethasone, tretinoin, flumetron, etc. These eye drops can effectively relieve eye dryness and redness at the beginning, but long-term use may lead to increased eye pressure and even cause optic nerve damage and vision loss, inducing hormonal glaucoma, and glaucoma causes irreversible damage to the visual function. Drug abuse is fiercer than a tiger! Especially for the “sophisticated” structure of the eye, it is often difficult to mend. Remember that medication needs to be used under the guidance of an ophthalmologist, and always pay attention to protecting your vision.
