What are the misconceptions about hypertension?

1, no symptoms of hypertension do not need to be treated. About 50% of early hypertension patients do not have any symptoms, this is due to individual differences, not sensitive to blood pressure response, but the harm caused by hypertension will be subtle unconscious progress. Such as vascular atherosclerosis, cardiovascular embolism, cerebral hemorrhage, renal failure and so on. So a measurement of increased blood pressure, must go to the hospital for regular diagnosis and treatment, do not miss the time of diagnosis and treatment. 2, only the middle-aged and elderly people get hypertension. According to statistics, the incidence of hypertension has reached 8% among primary and secondary school students under the age of 18 in China. Therefore, for young people with a family history of hypertension, or physical examination found high blood pressure should be measured regularly. 3, high blood pressure is not much, the body is fine without drugs, not that “medicine is three points of poison” well, can not eat as much as possible not to eat. This idea is very harmful. First of all, the beneficial effects of drugs are much greater than the side effects; secondly, the proportion of side effects of drugs is very small; furthermore, individual differences, each person has different side effects of drugs, there is always a drug is suitable for you. Therefore, under the guidance of a doctor to choose the right drug, the chances of side effects can be negligible. 4. “If you have high blood pressure, don’t take the medication first, you can’t stop taking the medication”. This understanding is also wrong. If you have hypertension, you need to take medication for life, and you cannot stop taking it. Because the level of scientific development is limited, there is no drug that can cure hypertension, so you have to take medicine every day. Without treatment, the incidence of heart disease, stroke and kidney failure is very high; disability and death rate is also very high, and then it is too late to treat. 5, “have high blood pressure, just take the medicine, blood pressure down, you can stop the medicine. This is also a common phenomenon in the treatment. Hypertension is a chronic disease. So far there is no cure. At present, it is advocated to take long-acting antihypertensive drugs, with 24-hour antihypertensive effect, once a day. Blood pressure down is the role of drugs, you do not take the drug, the next day the blood pressure is high again up. So you have to take the medication every day. If you need to stop the medication, you should also be under the guidance of the doctor, do not arbitrarily stop the medication on your own.
