Gout big toe pain usually does not hurt for a few days

Gout attacks most commonly lead to big toe pain. The specific duration of pain varies individually and is closely related to whether the patient is treated with NSAIDs or not, as well as the patient’s physical condition and the degree of acute arthritis, and other factors, and cannot be generalized. Acute arthritis caused by gout is mainly an inflammatory reaction due to uric acid crystals deposition, and patients usually experience swelling, pain, limb dysfunction, etc. If an acute attack of gout causes pain in the big toe, the pain is usually more intense and can reach a peak on day 2-3. In some patients with milder disease and better dietary control, the pain can be relieved after 4-5 days. If the patient is sicker and has repeated attacks, the pain can last 1-2 weeks or even 3-4 weeks, eventually becoming chronic arthritis. For acute attacks of gout, early application of drugs can shorten the duration of the disease and reduce pain, such as the application of small doses of colchicine or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In conclusion, gout can be controlled by medication, diet and exercise to lower blood uric acid, reduce the number of acute gout attacks and alleviate symptoms. Therefore, it is recommended that patients should adjust their dietary structure reasonably, avoid eating foods high in purines, and take medications as prescribed by the doctor to stabilize blood uric acid in the normal range for a long time, so as to avoid acute attacks of gouty arthritis.
