Liver abscesses are commonly caused by bacteria, amoebas and other purulent lesions of the liver, which may lead to death if not treated aggressively, but will not affect life expectancy when already cured. The abundance of duct systems in the liver, including the biliary system, hepatic arterial system, portal system and lymphatic system, greatly increases the chance of microbial parasitism and infection. Patients with liver abscesses may present with irregular septic fever, especially in bacterial liver abscesses, and persistent pain in the liver area, which increases dramatically with deep breathing and body position movement. Due to the location of the abscess, it can produce corresponding respiratory and abdominal symptoms, such as diarrhea. First of all, conservative treatment is considered, and in case of ineffective or large abscesses, puncture and drainage treatment or, if necessary, surgical incision and drainage are feasible. Daily prevention of liver abscess can be achieved by paying attention to personal hygiene, reasonable nutrition and strengthening exercise.
