How to use sodium valproate for injection

Sodium valproate for injection is used in two ways. When used for temporary replacement, the injection may be administered intravenously after dissolving in 0.9% saline. When rapid achievement of effective blood levels is required, it is usually pushed slowly intravenously. This product is indicated for the treatment of epilepsy. Adverse reactions such as anemia, thrombocytopenia, tremor, headache, dizziness, memory impairment, drowsiness, deafness, nausea, vomiting, and gum abnormalities may occur with the use of this drug. The drug is contraindicated in patients with acute and chronic hepatitis, in patients with a history or family history of severe hepatitis, and in those who are allergic to sodium valproate, divalproex, valproic amide. The use of this drug requires attention, when starting antiepileptic drug therapy, in rare cases there is an increase in new seizures; the drug is converted to valproic acid, so it should not be used in combination with other drugs with the same conversion product to prevent an overdose of valproic acid; the use of the drug is associated with a risk of local tissue necrosis; the drug should be strictly used by the intravenous route of administration, not intramuscular injection. The drug is generally used in hospitals by health care professionals.
