How to determine the growth retardation of children

The growth and development of children is a continuous gradual and uneven process, which follows a certain pattern. Generally, the age of children is divided into seven stages, namely fetal, neonatal, infant, early childhood, preschool, school age and adolescence. The growth and development of children in each stage has its own specificity. Neonatal period: From the time the fetus is delivered with the umbilical cord tied until 28 days. This period is included in infancy and is a special stage of infancy. The average length at birth is 50 cm. Infancy: From birth until 1 week of age. It is a year of extremely vigorous growth and development, and is the first period of accelerated height growth after birth. In this year, height increases by about 25 cm, i.e., about 75 cm in length at 1 year of age. Early childhood: from the age of 1 year to the age of 3 years. This period of growth and development is slightly slower than before, in the second year after birth height increased by 10-12 cm, that is, at the age of 2 years about 87 cm in length. After 2 years of age and before puberty, the height increases by 6-7 cm per year. Adolescence: is the second period of accelerated height growth, the height growth peak of boys is about 2 years later than that of girls, while the annual height growth value is greater than that of girls. Therefore, the final height is generally higher in boys than in girls. Height can increase by 20-25 cm during this period. If your child’s growth rate deviates from the normal range at a certain stage, it is necessary to see an endocrinologist promptly to find the cause and get a timely diagnosis and treatment.
