Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang is mostly used in the treatment of exogenous wind evil, evil heat congestion of the lungs. According to the patient’s accompanying symptoms for the addition and subtraction of medicinal flavors, such as surface evil (in the muscle surface of the evil) is heavy, discretionary addition of thorns, mint and other drugs. Asako Shi Gan Tang has the efficacy of pungent coolness and catharsis, clearing the lungs and calming asthma. It can be used to treat the symptoms of exogenous wind-evil and heat congestion in the lungs. Symptoms include unresolved body heat, coughing and shortness of breath, nasal discharge, thirst, and sweating or no sweating. If the heat in the lungs is very strong, the fluid is greatly injured, and there is little or no sweat, increase the dosage of gypsum, or add sizzling sangpi, rehmannia root, and Zhimu; if the superficial evils are heavy, and there is no sweat, and there is a bad cold (fear of cold), add Jingwu, Mentha piperita, tempeh, and burdock, as appropriate. For those with wind-cold cough and asthma, and phlegm-heat congestion, it is not advisable to use Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang.
