Is breast cancer curable?

Breast cancer (breast cancer) is one of the best treated malignant tumors and the overall cure rate of breast cancer is very high. The cure rate of breast cancer is related to many factors, such as the pathological type, histological grading, stage, immunohistochemistry (ER/PR/Her2/Ki67, etc.), ductal invasion, tumor size, whether the lymph nodes are metastatic and the number of metastases, etc. The 10-year survival rate of ductal carcinoma in situ can reach about 99%, the 10-year survival rate of stage I breast cancer >90%, and the 10-year survival rate of stage II breast cancer >80%, while the 5-year survival rate of breast cancer with distant metastasis <25%. This means that the earlier breast cancer is detected and treated, the better the outcome. Breast cancer treatment is a comprehensive treatment based on surgery. Most patients can be cured through surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, endocrine therapy and biologically targeted therapy. The key points to improve the cure rate are: 1. Early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Breast cancer can be detected through screening, which is divided into opportunistic screening and group screening. Opportunistic screening is when individual women take the initiative or voluntarily go to a medical institution that provides breast screening, and group screening is organized by the community or unit to provide breast screening for women of appropriate age. Ultrasound and physical examination are recommended for younger women, and mammography may be added for women over 40 years of age. Mammography is generally not recommended for women under 40 years of age who do not have clear risk factors for breast cancer or whose clinical physical examination does not reveal abnormalities. The diagnostic significance of infrared examination is not significant and infrared screening is not recommended. 2. It is recommended to go to the breast surgery department of a regular hospital for consultation and treatment. Because the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer is different from other diseases in general surgery, the understanding of breast cancer by breast specialists is different from that of general surgeons. For example, in the Breast Surgery Department of Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University, each patient is in charge of chemotherapy, endocrine therapy and biological targeted therapy from surgery to post-operative, and even the long-term follow-up review of the patient is in the charge of a fixed doctor, so that the patient's condition is better understood, which is conducive to the patient's recovery. 3. Individualized and standardized diagnosis and treatment. The diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer must follow the clinical guidelines, but the guidelines may only be effective for 95% of the patients, so it is necessary to analyze each patient's specific situation and carry out individualized and standardized diagnosis and treatment to improve the cure rate.
