What is variant asthma?



Variant asthma is a specific type of asthma, also called cough variant asthma, whose main manifestation is cough.

The causes of variant asthma are related to genetic and environmental physical and chemical factors, including various allergens and physical changes, which cause airway inflammation and smooth muscle contraction of the airways causing irritating coughing episodes.

Variant asthma is mainly characterized by an irritating dry cough, which is more pronounced in the early hours of the morning or at night, and can be triggered or exacerbated by a cold, inhalation of cold air or dust.

The treatment of variant asthma is mainly medication, which can be inhaled glucocorticoid drugs, such as budesonide, and intravenous infusion of glucocorticoid drugs, such as prednisone A, prednisolone and so on. Long-acting medications, such as salmeterol and formoterol, are usually available.

Variant asthma should be treated in strict compliance with the doctor’s instructions, not randomly use drugs, usually to improve immunity, avoid contact with allergens.
