Radix Codonopsis pilosulae is sweet and flat. It belongs to the spleen and lung meridians, and has the effect of tonifying the spleen and lungs, nourishing blood and promoting the production of body fluid. Radix Codonopsis pilosula is used for spleen and lung qi deficiency, poor appetite and tiredness, cough and asthma, deficiency of qi and blood, yellowish color, palpitation and shortness of breath, thirst due to injury of body fluid, internal heat and thirst (internal fever accompanied by symptoms such as excessive eating, drinking and urination). It is not suitable for those with solid or hot symptoms without deficiency of positive qi, and should not be used with veratrum.
