The most commonly used method of vision testing is the visual acuity chart. The more common clinical method is to use the E-chart to measure visual acuity. When measuring visual acuity, it is usually necessary to measure both the near vision as well as the distance vision of the naked eye. Near vision is usually measured at a distance of 30 centimeters from the chart, and the characters of the chart that the tester can see are recorded. Distance vision is measured at a distance of 5 meters from the eye chart, and the characters that can be seen by the test taker are recorded. Normally, the visual acuity of a normal adult is 1.0 and above. However, it should be noted that the examinee should stand with his/her backlight on and the height of the E-meter should be such that the vision markers are equal to the examinee’s eyes. Patients with abnormal vision tests are advised to seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
