The IUD is recommended to be removed 3-7 days after menstruation. However, there are certain requirements when removing the IUD, such as the prohibition of intercourse before the IUD removal. This may cause the acid-base balance of the vagina to be imbalanced and the cervix to be congested, which may cause infection in the uterine cavity and even tubal infection and pelvic inflammatory disease after IUD removal, and in severe cases, high fever and abdominal pain. It is forbidden to wash the vagina for 2 days before the IUD removal because the test of the leukocytes will be performed during the IUD removal and washing may affect the result of the test. The purpose of the test is to determine the presence of mycosis vaginalis, bacterial vaginitis and trichomoniasis. If these three types of vaginitis are present, it is forbidden to remove the IUD because blindly removing the IUD may cause infection in the uterine cavity and even pelvic abscesses, so treatment should be given for a period of time before removing the IUD.
