ssss, or staphylococcal scald-like skin syndrome, is a generalized, desquamative, infectious disease that progresses rapidly and can be associated with fever and other toxic symptoms, mainly in newborns and infants, and used to be called Ritter’s disease or neonatal exfoliative dermatitis. The main causative agent is coagulase-positive phage group ll type 71 staphylococcus, which can also be caused by type 51. Antimicrobial therapy is the key to treating SSSS. Early and timely selection of sensitive antibiotics can inhibit or kill Staphylococcus aureus to reduce toxin production and block further progression of the disease.
