Multiple thyroid nodules are mostly benign and usually do not cause serious adverse effects, but pathologic examination can be performed to determine the benign or malignant nature of the nodules if necessary. Thyroid nodules are usually detected during ultrasound examination of the neck, and multiple nodules are more common and mostly benign. In addition, signs such as well-defined borders, regular shape of the nodule, and homogeneous internal echogenicity also indicate that the nodule is likely to be benign. Pathologic examination of multiple thyroid nodules should be performed when necessary to determine the benign or malignant nature of the nodules. If the nodules are benign, regular checkups will be sufficient. If the nodules are malignant, the prognosis may be relatively poor and early treatment, including surgery, is recommended and should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor. Multiple thyroid nodules should be treated promptly.
