When a baby swallows a foreign body, the foreign body will usually be excreted in the baby’s stool in about 1 week at the latest, but the exact time needs to be determined according to the baby’s bowel habits. If the baby’s bowel habits are daily, it usually takes no more than 2 days for the foreign body to be expelled from the intestine. If your baby has a bowel movement every few days, the time it takes to expel the foreign body varies and may take up to a week or more to expel the foreign body. Some babies may have a foreign body stuck in the intestine, causing the risk of intestinal obstruction. Therefore, it is recommended that if the baby still has not expelled the foreign body after more than 1 week, he/she needs to go to the hospital for detailed diagnosis and examination to determine the location of the foreign body present. In addition, parents need to pay close attention to the baby’s spirit, body and the baby’s bowel movement during the period when the baby swallowed the foreign body, and should seek immediate medical attention in case of abnormalities.
