Hyperthyroidism and high monocytes are not usually directly related, but patients with subacute thyroiditis may present with hyperthyroidism with mononucleosis.
Hyperthyroidism is the short form of hyperthyroidism, an endocrine disease in which the thyroid gland synthesizes and releases excessive amounts of thyroid hormones, causing an increase in the excitability of the body’s sympathetic nervous system and metabolic hyperactivity. Patients with hyperthyroidism may exhibit symptoms such as tachycardia, weight loss, fatigue, hyperphagia, diarrhea or increased bowel movements, insomnia, and irritability.
However, subacute thyroiditis is usually caused by a viral infection, which can lead to hyperthyroidism in the early stages of the disease, and viral infections can lead to an increase in monocytes, so patients with subacute thyroiditis may have hyperthyroidism with mononucleosis.
Patients with hyperthyroidism who have high monocytes should go to the hospital and ask the doctor to make a judgment.
