Infections are broadly defined as all lesions caused by infection with pathogenic agents. Infectious agents can include bacteria, viruses, chlamydia, mycoplasma, spirochetes, rickettsia, and protozoa. Among them, bacteria and viruses are the main ones, and chlamydia and mycoplasma infections have been gradually increasing in recent years. Among infectious diseases, viral infections occupy a prominent and important position, and the current epidemic of influenza A, which is caused by viruses. In addition to epidemics, they can also be widely seen in everyday illnesses. For example, the common cold, viral enteritis, herpes pharyngitis, and herpes simplex and herpes zoster. For the treatment of infectious diseases, antibiotics naturally come to mind. However, in recent years, due to the misuse of antibiotics, many bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics and now antibiotics are not nearly as effective as they were when they were first invented. To be fair, bacterial resistance to antibiotics will happen sooner or later if antibiotics are not abused, which is a phenomenon of self-protection among organisms, and it is because of antibiotic abuse that this problem has become particularly serious; in addition, antibiotics are not a panacea, and they are not effective against all pathogens, such as viruses that are widely available, and the efficacy is very poor. Pediatricians bear the brunt of all kinds of infections. What colds, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc., often threaten the health of the pediatric population. When children get sick in this area, most parents carry their children to the big hospitals for infusions of antibiotics. This indiscriminate use of antibiotics is a specific manifestation of abuse. We know that the initial stage of the cold or influenza is caused by the virus, and antibiotics are basically ineffective against the virus, individual drugs, such as the treatment of methotrexate “Duffy” introduced from abroad, although there is a certain effect, but the phenomenon of drug resistance has been exposed. Closely related to the infection is the immune disease. Low immunity can easily cause infections; and repeated infections can lead to immune dysfunction, which can cause a series of diseases. Immune disorders are malfunctions of the body’s immune function: that is, reduced or hyperactive immune function. Immune function is a defensive function of the body against foreign infections. It is very important for each of us. But it does not mean that the stronger the immune function, the better. If it goes too far, it is hyper-immune, which is harmful to the body. A weakened immune system can lead to recurrent infections, and once infected, it is not easy to recover; a hyperactive immune system can also cause a series of diseases. For example, asthma, urticaria, allergic purpura, and some more serious diseases such as glomerulonephritis, rheumatism, thrombocytopenic purpura, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, etc., are all related to hyperimmunity. Thus, it seems that infection and immunity are closely related to human health. So what is the role of Chinese medicine on infection and immunity? For decades, I have focused on the study of Chinese medicine, which is equivalent to the Western medicine of infectious diseases, and naturally, the immune diseases associated with infections are also the focus of my research. TCM has good results in treating infectious diseases, and sometimes its effects are almost magical. When I deal with everyday infectious diseases such as cold and fever, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, etc., I can usually control most of them very quickly without western medicine; and I have also cured many long-standing fevers that have not been treated for a long time, including prolonged high fever and prolonged low fever. Recently, it has been reported that the efficacy of Chinese medicine in treating influenza A exceeds that of the new imported drug “Duffy”, and it is mainly the application of a proprietary Chinese medicine, namely Lotus Qing Fever Capsules, which only uses the “tip of the iceberg” of Chinese medicine, which shows the great potential of Chinese medicine. I have received good results in the treatment of immune diseases, in addition to asthma and allergic purpura; I have also received unexpected results in the treatment of long-standing thrombocytopenic purpura, polymyositis and dermatomyositis. Many of them have been cured or basically cured. The first case is a people’s police officer, suffering from polymyositis for a year and a half, long-term application of hormones, the disease can not be controlled. Because of myositis, the muscle strength of the extremities was low, and the weakness of the extremities, especially the weakness of the lower extremities, was more obvious. In addition, there was pain in the muscles around the body. When he couldn’t think of anything else, he came to me in the clinic and put his hope in Chinese medicine. I treated him carefully. Weakness in the limbs is called impotence in Chinese medicine; pain in the body is called paralysis in Chinese medicine. I combined the two methods of treating impotence and paralysis to treat him. What he did not expect was that after a short period of treatment, his condition improved significantly and he gradually stopped using hormones. His muscle strength increased significantly, and the distance he could walk at one time kept increasing, from tens of meters to hundreds and thousands of meters, and he felt easier to walk. After the condition improved, the hormone dosage was gradually reduced until it was completely stopped. After about a year of TCM treatment, he was surprisingly able to go up the mountain and resume his normal work. After the cure, more than 5 years have passed and the condition is still stable and has not recurred. The second case is a relative of mine back home in Zhejiang, a young woman in her twenties. He suffered from dermatomyositis since 2001, which was recurrent. He had purplish-red symmetrical erythema on his forehead and face, pain around his body, and muscle weakness in his limbs. The condition used to be in remission after treatment with high doses of hormones and hydroxychloroquine. However, when the hormone dose was reduced to 10 mg per day, the disease recurred. The disease had been recurring for 8 years. The latest relapse was more severe, and the treatment included methotrexate (a drug with many side effects) in addition to hormones, but the disease was still not under control. The family was worried about her illness. They wrote to me in desperation. At my suggestion, Chinese medicine was used and she was told to maintain the original Western treatment for the time being and to stop the Western medicine when her condition improved. This case was different from the previous case: the previous case was polymyositis, with myalgia and muscle weakness; this case was dermatomyositis, with erythema in addition to myalgia and muscle weakness. In addition to the treatment of paralysis and impotence, I also added the treatment of spots to the treatment. In less than two months, the erythema has faded, the muscle pain has disappeared, the muscle strength has increased significantly, and the condition is more than half better, and now I am continuing treatment for her.
