Ultrasound images of uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids can be classified as interstitial fibroids, subplasmic fibroids and submucosal fibroids. Ultrasound findings include an enlarged uterus, irregular morphology, and heterogeneous myometrial echogenicity, which may appear as echogenic nodules or moderately hypoechoic nodules. Subplasmalemmal leiomyosarcoma may protrude outward with intact envelope and may be surrounded by blood flow signal around the CDF. Submucosal leiomyomas are hypoechoic and may appear compressed, distorted, or displaced in the uterine cavity line. The basal layer of the endometrium of submucosal leiomyoma may be interrupted and hypoechoic or moderately echogenic nodules may be seen in the uterine cavity.
