SHPT refers to secondary hyperparathyroidism, or secondary hyperparathyroidism for short. It is a clinical syndrome in which hypocalcemia, due to various reasons, stimulates the parathyroid glands to hyperplasia and hypertrophy, which in turn secretes excessive parathyroid hormone, and is most commonly seen in patients with renal insufficiency and osteochondrosis. The common causes of secondary hyperparathyroidism include kidney disease, renal insufficiency, osteochondrosis, intestinal calcium absorption and fluorosis, etc. The basic diagnosis can be made based on the medical history, blood calcium, phosphorus and magnesium tests, X-ray examination and bone densitometry. After the diagnosis is confirmed, attention should be paid to timely compliance with the doctor’s instructions to take regular treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
