Is the treatment for supraglottic sulcus cancer the same as the conventional treatment for lung cancer? Prof. Jian You: In principle, the treatment of supraglottic sulcus lung cancer is the same as that of lung cancer. When the patient’s cardiopulmonary function can tolerate surgery and the tumor has no distant metastasis, surgery is preferred. If these requirements are not met, conservative treatment is preferred. Conservative treatment includes chemotherapy, radiotherapy or simultaneous radiotherapy, as well as the latest targeted therapy and biological therapy. Can upper lung sulcus cancer be removed cleanly by surgery? Prof. Jian You: Most of the patients with supraglottic sulcus lung cancer who have been carefully evaluated preoperatively can achieve radical cure. Because the biological characteristics of supraglottic sulcus cancer are different from those of common lung cancer, supraglottic sulcus cancer is more limited and rarely has distant metastases, such as bone metastases, brain metastases, adrenal metastases and liver metastases. Therefore, even though the surgery may be complicated due to the special location of supraglottic sulcus lung cancer, the postoperative result may be better than that of ordinary lung cancer.
