A slow heart rate can cause a lack of blood supply to the brain. Under normal conditions, the heart’s ability to eject blood to the whole body is determined by the heart rate and the output per beat. When the heart rate decreases, the heart’s ability to eject blood to the whole body decreases and exceeds the body’s ability to compensate, then insufficient blood supply to the heart, brain, kidneys and other important organs will occur. Severe bradycardia can cause symptoms such as syncope due to insufficient blood supply to the brain.
