Can epilepsy be inherited?

Some epilepsies caused by congenital genetic disorders may be inherited. Examples include Dravet syndrome, early-onset childhood aphasic epilepsy, Sturge-weber syndrome, and progressive myoclonic epilepsy. In contrast, epilepsy due to acquired factors is usually not inherited, such as those caused by tumors, hemorrhage, trauma, and encephalitis.
