Do swollen lymph nodes behind the ear heal on their own?

The progression of the disease varies considerably for different causes of swollen lymph nodes behind the ear. In the case of swollen lymph nodes behind the ear induced by mild local inflammation, the swollen lymph nodes often resolve on their own when the infection subsides, while severe or chronic infections require anti-infective treatment and may still be palpable after cure and require surgical intervention if necessary.
Lymphoma, leukaemia, tumours and nodal disease can also cause swollen lymph nodes behind the ear. These conditions often get progressively worse and are difficult to heal on their own and require prompt hospital consultation for a clear diagnosis and active treatment.
