How to determine bilirubin encephalopathy in newborns

If the newborn’s skin appears yellow, it suggests the possibility of neonatal jaundice, and further examination is needed to determine the degree and type of jaundice; if the unconjugated bilirubin rises significantly, along with increased sleep, decreased activity, shrill crying, and convulsions, it suggests possible bilirubin encephalopathy.
