How to treat cluster headache

Cluster headache is intensely symptomatic and generally includes treatment during the onset phase and prophylactic treatment during the remission phase.
Treatment in the onset phase is generally by medications such as selective 5-H1B/1D receptor agonists, together with oxygenation, to relieve symptoms in the most efficient way.
Patients in remission are mostly free of headache symptoms and can be treated prophylactically with lithium salts and melatonin. If all the effects are limited, surgical treatment, such as treatment with trigeminal or pterygopalatine ganglion surgery, occipital nerve stimulation, and deep brain stimulation therapy, may be considered.
