When a patient has a dislocation of the jaw joint, the main symptoms are the inability to close the mouth, pain, difficulty in swallowing and speech, and drooling. The symptoms are more pronounced in bilateral dislocations. In unilateral dislocation the above symptoms are manifested on the dislocated side, with the jaw tilted towards the non-dislocated side.
