The main symptom for patients is loss of vision. Patients are often asymptomatic in the early stages of diabetic retinopathy. As the disease progresses, symptoms of diabetic retinopathy may include symptoms such as mydriasis, blurred vision, diplopia, visual field loss, vision loss and in advanced stages, patients may become blind. Diabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of preventable blindness in adults.
