What causes upper back pain

Upper back pain can have many causes. Chronic upper back pain may be secondary to strain on the collar and back muscles due to prolonged ambulation and poor posture, while acute upper back pain may be secondary to muscle or ligament strains, vertebral fractures, herpes zoster, etc. Further differential diagnosis is required after examination by a specialist.
