Hallux valgus, also known as bunion, is a skeletal deformity in which the bunion, which forms the first metatarsophalangeal joint, is shifted to the lateral side. Patients mainly present with a bunion deformity of the foot, which is asymptomatic in the early stages and later becomes red, swollen and painful at the site of extrusion.
