Swollen and painful corners of the eyes with clusters of blisters can be suspected of ocular herpes zoster, an infectious disease affecting the nerves and skin caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is contagious. The disease can cause severe pain in the eye and the affected skin often appears in clusters of papules and blisters.
