Why do seizures continue after taking oral antiepileptic drugs?

Approximately 20% to 30% of patients with epilepsy present as drug-refractory, with regular pharmacologic antiepileptic therapy failing to control seizures, especially in patients with epilepsy with structural intracranial lesions. For patients with drug-refractory epilepsy, further surgical solutions need to be sought.
