Why do you have a dry cough when you smell an irritating smell?

Chemical pollutants present in the environment can cause a dry cough. Inhalation of toxic, harmful or irritating gases, dust, industrial pollutants and fumes from the respiratory tract irritates the respiratory tract and induces a dry cough.
