What is the difference between acne and cysts?

Acne and cysts differ in different types, clinical symptoms, and treatment methods. 1. Different types: (1) Acne is a common dermatologic disease, which is mainly related to four major causes: inflammatory response (mainly due to Propionibacterium acnes), abnormal androgen levels, abnormal keratinization of perifollicular cells, and large secretion of sebum, in addition to family genetics, improper diet, high-temperature environments, and psychological stress. (2) Cysts are a description of skin lesions and can be seen in a variety of dermatologic diseases. For example, acne can also have cysts, in addition to sebaceous cysts, epidermal cysts and other diseases. 2. Clinical symptoms: Acne occurs in areas with dense sebaceous glands and is characterized by pimples, papules, pustules, etc., often accompanied by seborrhea. Cysts are cystic structures formed due to retention of secretions and abnormal development, often manifested as subcutaneous swellings, and usually have no self-conscious symptoms. 3. Treatment: Acne is mostly treated with medication, such as topical retinoic acid ointment (occasionally with burning sensation), or photodynamic or laser therapy. If the cysts are small and slow-growing, regular checkups are sufficient. For larger cysts, surgical treatments such as intracystic drainage and cystectomy are often used. Whether it is acne or cysts, if similar lesions appear, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time. The above medications should be used as prescribed by your doctor.
