It is 100 times less contagious than the hepatitis B virus. If an HIV-infected person reaches an undetectable level of HIV in the serum after antiviral therapy (HAART), the infectiousness of this person is almost reduced to a very low and very low level. Nowadays, HIV infection is transmitted by sexual contact, accounting for more than 87%. If one party is HIV-positive (without antiviral treatment), the infection rate is about 1/1000 for men and 1/100 for women in a single unprotected sexual encounter, but the chance rises to nearly 10% among gay men!
