Congenital deafness has a genetic potential.
Because about 75% or more of congenital deafness is caused by genetic factors, prenatal diagnosis, i.e. genetic screening of the fetus, is recommended for pregnant women in the 10th week of pregnancy, especially if they have a family history of deafness or have given birth to a deaf baby.
In addition, congenital deafness can also be prevented if the pregnant woman is infected during pregnancy and delivery, or if ototoxic drugs are applied.
