The cause of acute urticaria is uncertain. If it is caused by an infection, the hives will slowly subside once the infection is controlled and cured; however, it is possible that hives may appear again after another infection.
Chronic urticaria is usually difficult to heal completely on its own, its causes are complex and varied, and requires prompt and standardised treatment if the cause cannot be identified. Most children can be well controlled, but it is easy to relapse after stopping the medication.
