Haemorrhoids, or piles, are the most common anorectal disorder.
Patients are advised to eat a light diet in daily life and avoid spicy and irritating foods such as strong alcohol, onions, ginger, garlic, mustard, chillies and fennel. Eating large amounts of these foods can cause blood vessels to become congested and dilated, leading to increased discomfort when the patient has a bowel movement. Patients should also limit the intake of fatty meats, butter and other high-fat foods as appropriate.
It is important to note that dietary modification is only one way of relieving symptoms and should not be used as a complete substitute for treatment. Your doctor will be able to formulate an appropriate treatment plan and give you sound dietary advice based on your specific situation.
