The healing time for pleural effusion caused by tuberculous pleurisy is at least 6-12 months, and the exact time is closely related to the patient’s own physical condition and whether he/she is on regular treatment, so it is not possible to make a generalization. Currently, the minimum duration of anti-tuberculosis treatment is 6-12 months, and the principles of anti-tuberculosis treatment for tuberculous pleural effusion are also followed, i.e., early, regular, combined, adequate, and complete. If the effusion reaches a moderate amount or more, it is necessary to perform a thoracentesis to extract the fluid or closed chest drainage, and the effusion can be gradually controlled and reduced in about two weeks’ time. If the anti-tuberculosis regimen is effective, it does not mean that the tubercle bacillus has been completely eradicated, and the patient still needs to continue to receive treatment. If the duration of anti-tuberculosis treatment for tuberculous pleurisy is insufficient, it may cause recurrent episodes of tuberculosis, or even the emergence of drug-resistant tuberculous pleurisy, which may also cause recurrent pleural effusions. It is recommended that patients with tuberculous pleural effusion should go to regular hospitals as soon as possible and cooperate with doctors to receive treatment actively.
