If the cat does not die 10 days after being scratched by a cat, the need for rabies vaccination in China depends on whether the cat has been vaccinated against rabies. After being scratched by a cat, the risk of rabies can be determined abroad by the “10-day observation method”. If the injured person observes the cat for 10 days after being scratched, if the cat is still healthy, the possibility of rabies infection can be basically ruled out and the subsequent vaccination can be dispensed with. However, China’s prevention and control requirements are more stringent. If the cat has been regularly vaccinated against rabies, the possibility of rabies infection can be basically ruled out after 10 days without abnormalities, and if the cat has not been vaccinated against rabies, the person must be vaccinated and decide whether to receive anti-rabies immunoglobulin at the same time according to the wound. If a person is scratched extensively by a stray cat, the person should be vaccinated promptly once scratched and bleeding because there is almost no history of rabies vaccination in stray cats and the person does not have the conditions to observe the stray cat for 10 days.
