How can I read the quality of my blastocysts?

Many IVF patients do not know much about the embryo level, especially the blastocyst level, which is written in their medical records, and they still do not understand after listening to the doctor’s simple explanation. Then, we will borrow an article from “Dr. Edin” to explain in detail “how to read your blastocyst quality”. As we all know, high quality blastocyst is the key to successful IVF. When embryos are cultured to the blastocyst stage, what does the blastocyst grade description, such as “3AB”, mean? The first number represents the speed of development: 1=Early blastocyst Early blastocyst (blastocyst cavity less than 1/2 size) 2=Early blastocyst (blastocyst cavity greater than 1/2 size) 3=Fullblastocyst Complete blastocyst 4=Expanded blastocyst Expanded blastocyst 5=Hatching blastocyst Hatching blastocyst 6=hatched blastocyst Fully hatching blastocyst The second letter represents the fetal part, i.e. the inner cell mass grading: Grade A, high number of cells, tightly arranged; Grade B, low number of cells, loosely arranged grade A, small number of cells, loosely arranged; grade C, few cells. The third letter represents the placental part, i.e. trophoblast cell grading: grade A, epithelial cell layer consists of more cells with dense structure; grade B, epithelial cell layer has few cells and loose structure; grade C, epithelial cell layer is sparse. The last two letters are only valid for blastocysts of grade 3 or higher, because it is above grade 3 that the fetal and placental regions can be clearly distinguished. Therefore, 3AB blastocysts are high quality blastocysts of grade 3, and the success rate of transferring such blastocyst babies will be higher, almost reaching about 60-70%.
