In children with hoarseness, the vocal cords are often damaged by excessive or inappropriate use of the voice due to a tendency to speak or shout loudly. In children with congenital laryngeal webbing, hoarseness of cry is seen, usually without respiratory distress, or in severe cases, no cry after birth, with laryngeal wheeze and inspiratory respiratory distress.
