Is 37.5 degrees a fever in children?

Whether a child’s body temperature of 37.5°C is a fever needs to be judged according to the specific circumstances and accompanying symptoms. The normal axillary temperature of a child is between 36℃ and 37.2℃. If the body temperature reaches 37.5℃ and the child is in good spirits and has no other uncomfortable symptoms, it may be due to the high metabolism of the child and the imperfect development of the thermoregulatory center, which may lead to a temporary increase in body temperature during strenuous activities, wearing too many clothes, or high room temperature, and is not a fever. However, if the child is accompanied by sneezing, runny nose, coughing and other symptoms, and the body temperature continues to be 37.5℃, the child is in a state of low fever, at this time, physical cooling can be carried out, such as using warm towels to wipe the child’s armpits, forehead, groin, etc. If the child does not have a history of febrile convulsions, there is no need to use medication to lower the temperature, so pay attention to taking the temperature and observing the child’s condition. When your child has a low fever, drink plenty of plain water, eat a light diet, and keep the room temperature and humidity appropriate. If the temperature continues to rise, go to the pediatrician in a timely manner to avoid delaying the condition.
