The difference between a melanoma and a mole on the face

The difference between melanoma and nevus on face includes different etiology, different clinical manifestations, different severity of disease, different treatment modalities and so on. 1. Different etiology: nevus is a benign tumor formed by melanocytes gathering locally, the etiology of which is unknown and may be related to gene mutation; melanoma is a malignant tumor originated from melanocytes with high malignant degree, and the etiology of which is mainly for the patients with underlying diseases, such as precancerous lesions, immunosuppression, solid organ transplantation, etc., long term chronic exposure to the sunlight, viral infections and so on. 2. Clinical manifestations are different: nevus manifests as brown, brown, blue-black or black, with clear skin lesions; melanoma has more symptoms, which often manifests as black or dark brown raised nodules with unclear boundaries, and can also have brownish-yellow, brown, black, red, blue, gray and other patches. 3. Different severity of disease: nevus is a benign tumor with mild condition; melanoma is more serious and belongs to malignant tumor, which will affect the survival time of patients. 4. Different treatment modes: moles usually do not need treatment, and if malignant change is suspected, surgery can be taken; the main treatment modes of melanoma include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and so on.
