Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a family of papillomaviruses, is a small DNA virus with double-stranded DNA, spherical in shape and 52-55 nm in diameter. The genome of papillomaviruses encodes three main groups of genes
1: three oncogenes, including E5, E6 and E7, responsible for regulating the transformation process of cancer cells.
2: two regulatory genes, including E1 and E2, responsible for regulating transcription and replication of the viral genome.
3: two structural protein genes, including L1 and L2, which make up the viral particles
HPV infection routes.
1: common sexually transmitted infections
2: Direct skin-to-skin contact is the most efficient way of transmission
3: The virus is not transmitted through blood or body fluids (e.g. semen)
4: Perineal contact is necessary to acquire HPV, while sexual intercourse is not necessary.
Age of prevalence and incubation period of HPV infection.
1: 10-30% of adults are infected with HPV
2: Even higher in sexually active people (50 to 80%)
3: Prevalence age 20-29 years (40%)
4: Incubation period: 3 weeks to 8 months (mean 2.8 months)
