I. Initial consultation
The half-year-old child was brought to the doctor by his mother, who first saw that the child was crying and not easy to coax, and had white changes in his mouth. The mother told us that she found small white spots in her child’s mouth one month ago, but other than that, there were no other symptoms, so she did not pay attention to them. However, recently, she found that white patches appeared on the side walls of her mouth, tongue and inside of her lips, which could not be removed, along with symptoms such as irritability and refusal to eat, so she came to the hospital for consultation. The initial diagnosis was thrush, which was aggravated by the lack of early intervention, resulting in the appearance of typical symptoms.
II. Treatment history
Physical examination revealed white patches on the buccal side of the child’s mouth, tongue and inner lips, which were red and oozing blood after wiping. Blood and stool tests were normal, but a fungal smear test was positive, confirming the diagnosis of thrush. Give the half-year-old child drugs such as mycoplasma tablets to inhibit the growth and reproduction of Candida, and at the same time, take antifungal drugs such as fluconazole tablets to kill Candida. It is recommended to follow the doctor’s prescription and review the medication after 5 days.

Third, the effect of treatment
The oral symptoms and the discomfort of the body can be significantly improved by the systematic drug treatment of the half-year-old child. After 5 days of medication, the white patches in the child’s oral cavity became lighter in color and even disappeared, and he could also resume normal eating and drinking, and his irritable symptoms were significantly relieved. At the time of review, the oral mucosa was smooth again and there were no recurrent attacks, so the treatment effect was more satisfactory.
IV. Notes
I was very happy to see that the child’s symptoms improved. Parents are advised to disinfect their child’s toys, bottles, soothers, etc. and store them in a dry and ventilated place to avoid recurrent infections caused by fungal growth. It is also important to keep the child’s oral hygiene. After eating milk or complementary foods, it is recommended to clean the child’s mouth with warm water in time and to drink more warm water. In addition, it is recommended that parents should accompany their children to exercise and play outdoor sports to enhance their children’s resistance to diseases, thus helping to reduce the possibility of fungal infections.
V. Personal insight
Thrush is a relatively common oral disease in infants and young children, and parents should pay attention to it, but there is no need to worry too much about it. However, parents should not be overly concerned, because children with thrush can improve their clinical symptoms and have a good prognosis after being diagnosed by a professional doctor and undergoing active and effective treatment. In this case, the parents did not pay attention to the early stage of the child’s disease, which led to the aggravation of the disease and the appearance of other uncomfortable symptoms, and the families need to take this as a warning.
